Activision's Ongoing Battle Against Cheating in Call of Duty: Ricochet's Role and Future Strategies
Nov-29-2024
The challenge of cheating in gaming is an ongoing concern, particularly for widely recognized series like Call of Duty. With a history of combating various types of hacking, Activision and its partnered studios have implemented numerous measures to tackle this persistent issue. Recently, the introduction of an effective anti-cheat platform has shown promise, but maintaining its integrity remains a top priority.
One significant step in this battle against cheaters is the establishment of Ricochet, an advanced anti-cheat system designed to detect and eliminate illicit activities. While this initiative has demonstrated notable success, it depends heavily on the dedication of the team behind it. Activision has reiterated its commitment to actively pursue cheaters through regular updates.
To enhance their efforts, Team Ricochet is increasing the capabilities of its AI systems to uphold the rules more rigorously. Additionally, they are conducting hourly sweeps to expel cheaters from Ranked Play and leaderboards. Since the launch of the Ranked mode in CoD: Black Ops 6 on November 21, they have aggressively banned over 19,000 accounts associated with cheating.
This situation underscores the serious cheating problem that the current iteration of Call of Duty faces. It also reignites discussions among console players who express strong desires for the option to disable crossplay with PC users, aiming to avoid lobbies adversely affected by hackers.
