Release of Streets of Rogue 2 Postponed until October
Jul-23-2024
The digital conflict depicted in the follow-up to the highly praised Streets of Rogue is set to experience a slight postponement. The game's creator shared this update through a blog entry on Steam, earmarking the 22nd of October as the revised launch timeframe for Streets of Rogue 2's Early Access debut.
Matt Dabrowski, the steadfast singular force behind the game's development, conveyed that the progression has taken a bit more time than initially anticipated, even with additional talents onboard. On Steam, he communicated the following insights:
"While SoR 2 has seen a team expansion compared to the original, I remain the exclusive coder and game designer at the helm. It's a well-known quirk among coders that estimating the time for completing certain developmental stages can be a challenge.
Now, instead of "developmental stages," think of the "entire game ready for Early Access," and as you might guess, arriving at an accurate estimate becomes even more complex. My aim had been to roll out the game during the summer, which made 2024 an exceptionally demanding year.
Realistically, we could have hit the initial launch date, but it would have meant pushing the limits beyond what I was willing to do. The shift to a new date gives me the additional space necessary to further refine the game and elevate its quality.
In anticipation of the highly anticipated main release, Streets of Rogue 2 will soon be accessible to eager players through a broadly scoped playtest that is scheduled to take place in August or September. This enticing chance provides participants with an advance preview of the gameplay and enables them to provide impactful insights to the creators.
Those who are interested in participating in this playtest can easily submit a request for access through the game's dedicated page on Steam. This ensures that the developers can gather a diverse group of players to test and improve the game leading up to its official launch.
"Streets of Rogue 2" in development or released would likely continue the tradition of the first game, renowned for its deep gameplay mechanics and freedom of choice. Players could anticipate improvements in numerous areas such as graphics, the depth of role-playing systems, intricate level designs, and a broader selection of character classes and abilities. Additionally, it stands to reason that cooperative multiplayer would be an area for expansion, considering its popularity in the first game.
